This morning, CA announced the availability of its newest on demand application: CA Agile VisionTM. This app, built on salesforce.com’s Force.com platform, leverages proven technology used by salesforce.com to manage the development of its industry-leading applications. It’s designed to be a cost-effective (priced at $15/user/month) and easy-to-use (create sprints in minutes) solution that makes agile planning easy for teams across the enterprise.
This app addresses two emerging trends. First, the increase in use of Agile development methods, and second, the growth in demand for apps delivered via Software as a Service (SaaS).
According to Forrester Research, Inc., “Agile development methods have become very popular…” In their recent Forrester/Dr. Dobbs Global Developer Technographics® Survey, Q3 2009, “35% of respondents stated that Agile most closely reflects their development process…”1. This demonstrates that Agile development approaches are now reaching mainstream – and for many good reasons. Agile development gives organizations the ability to:
- Use iterative and incremental development to deliver high-quality applications
- More quickly meet evolving requirements and goals set by the business
- Deliver more robust software releases in less time
I estimate that approximately the same percentage (one-third) of organizations are leveraging technology though a SaaS delivery model. The benefits of leveraging SaaS solutions are clear. With more immediate deployment, organizations can realize a faster time-to-benefit. In fact, Forrester Research states that “SaaS delivery of the application produced an expected return of 281% and an NPV of $1,821,584, with a faster time-to-benefit.”2 In addition, less resources and infrastructure are needed, so you can get started quickly, with less investment required up front.
The questions I pose to you:
- Are you leveraging Agile development methods in your organization today?
- Does your organization have a SaaS strategy?
- How can your CIO gain the much needed view into both Agile and non-Agile projects?
I encourage each of you to check-out the CA Agile Vision Team Edition 30-day free trial at: ca.com/agile. See how quickly you can begin planning your first sprint.
